My Teenager's View Of Our World

I blog a lot about Zachary, but there are other Newland kidlets in this crazy family.  In fact, this one just turned a teenager!  What?!  I still don't believe it.  :)  To celebrate his completing the dreaded, frustrating, and time consuming science fair project, he and I went out on a mommy/son date last night.  Here he is with his latte & cup he purchased with his birthday gift card. (Thank you Aunt Jeaniene & Uncle Seth!)  What fun we had.  Travis and I are a LOT alike - and bicker frequently.  We both have to be right...proof I could never homeschool this kid!  But this night was all fun.  We caffeinated ourselves and walked around Target.  He is growing up way too fast.

It was the conversation on the car ride home that I will never forget.  This new teenager began talking about our sinful world.  He expressed how frustrating it is that "we were made in the image of God" yet this world is so evil.  He is very aware of the sin around him and I am so proud of how it bothers him.  He talked about how entertainment and media are so willing to promote sin.  I'm so proud of how he is willing to stand up for what is right.  I'm not naive.  He's got a lot of teen years left - but I'm praying that his convictions stand strong.  And when the mistakes come, he will learn from them and grow.

Lord Jesus, guard this young heart & mind.  May he grow to love you more and more each day and be a light in this dark world.

My eyes are ever on the Lord,
Jessica
